Dear St. Gertrude - December 5, 2004

Dear St. Gertrude,

What about last Sunday! The combined Mass hit a new high. Song, dance, a show of force from the synod committees — everything was so festive. A great start for Advent!

The Church had a different look too. Annie Sweeney and Connie Engelmohr gave the Church an Advent look with elegant cloth and ribbon. Peter Buttitta and Jay Lamble made an Advent wreath for the outside and the Giving Trees were primed to take on the hundreds of ornaments. We are advent-urous.And today, the St. Nick’s Bazaar. Do we ever sleep around here? Well, not Joe Glueckert and his helpers. They have created a winter wonderland across from the Church. Can’t wait to taste those pancakes.

So what do you think about Senn High School and the naval academy? There are people in the parish who are against it and there are people who are for it in the parish. So what do you think?

Meanwhile there are some issues in the Northside Catholic Academy which are being tossed around. I hope we have an open meeting sometime soon so that we can air the concerns. What I see when I go into the school are a lot of happy faces. It seems to me that we are doing a remarkable job. But we keep hearing about this Meitler report which is an overview analysis of the whole Catholic school system. The report will be released soon and it looks like there will be some school closings. NCA will not be part of the closings - we know that. But we still are concerned about the fiscal and governance questions in the school. More about this later -
