St. Gertrude Keeps Lent

Pray * Fast * Give Alms

My daughters came home singing this song, “What can one little person do to help this world?”My adult spin was, “What difference will my one little effort make in the face of massive disasters and large lunacy?”Jesus, in response, “got up long before dawn, left the house, and went off to a lonely place and prayed there.”He, who faced the same fatigue as we, the same overwhelming odds, found Soul power within himself, then set out to bang away at his Palestinian piece of the rock with ointment rather than chisel.Lent invites us “ again “ to imitate the Master, by making private prayer and meditation a regular habit, daily if possible. To uncover the hidden source of courage to carry on, first find the certain time and special place to pray.

To help out, we will make available a small book entitled The Little Black Book. This collection of 6-minute meditations will be available next Sunday in the back of church or at the rectory. We are also providing a variety of communal prayer experiences in order to collectively keep this holy season. Hopefully you will find at least one of the following opportunities convenient and meaningful.
