Dear St. Gertrude - April 3, 2005
What a glorious Holy Week! We had very large congregations for all of the services and the participation was above average. But let me tell you how great the players were: ¢ Liturgical dancers on Palm Sunday and at the Easter gym Mass - merry and full of grace
¢ Drummers on Palm Sunday - didn’t miss a beat
¢ Congregation as Jesus on Palm Sunday - Messianic
¢ Steve Monti and the altar servers - balletic
¢ Oboist, Jenny McGonaghy - an unshaken reed
¢ Readers of the Passion of Palm Sunday and Good Friday - eloquent
¢ Foot washees on Thursday - twinkle-toed
¢ Processioners on Holy Thursday - solemnly ecstatic
¢ Venerator of the Cross (Good Friday) - reverently respectful
¢ Explicator of the Passion (Dick Westley on Friday) - designated name-dropper
¢ RCIA candidates for Baptism (on Saturday) - willing and able
¢ The Seven welcomed to the Table of the Lord - First Communicants
¢ The readers from creation to the short history of St. Gertrude - spectacular
¢ Peter Buttitta and the Easter Fire - distinguishably inextinguishable
¢ Choir on Holy Saturday - cherubic and seraphic
¢ Jim Manzardo singing the Exultat in the dark - illuminating
¢ William Coble as the parish musician - Mahlerian
¢ Connie Englemohr and Annie Sweeney as decorators - extraordinaire
¢ The maintenance men (Tom Martin and Layton Yancey) - movers and shakers
¢ The ushers, altar servers, sacristans, RCIA team, reception workers, clean-up crew, catechists, rectory staff, and everyone else who had anything to do with the Best Holy Week of all time - Alleluia.

P.P.S. There is an interesting gathering of alienated Catholics at Northwestern University’s Sheil Center, sponsored by Voice of the Faithful on Tuesday, April 12, at 7pm. See the flyer in the vestibule.
