Dear St. Gertrude - July 3, 2005
It sure was a great block party. I missed a lot of it because of family stuff but it seems everybody else came. So I’m sure it will be a regular event on our parish calendar. Can you believe we had a play written and performed by the children; Tibetan monks who played the long horn; Tom Martin and the Boys doing rock-n-roll like it was our last chance; generous providers who donated all sorts of wares; tolerant neighbors who put up with some inconvenience; and parish spirit that just would not stop.Besides that, we are approaching $30,000 in our Balancing the Budget campaign. At the end of the fiscal year we were some $25,000 behind on our Sunday giving. Like any good householder we wanted to make sure that we were paying for ourselves as we went along. Rich Goode from our finance committee put together a plan to balance the budget, gave a great talk, wrote a great letter, and BAM, we get almost $30,000 from a very generous parish.
The missionary who came to give the annual talk did a very smart thing. As you remember last Sunday was desperately hot. The missionary made a brilliant decision. Talk short. It worked. The missions received a good collection from the parish (over $2,000) and we stayed cool, calm and COLLECTED.
The NCA school board met Tuesday, and the convocation of priests also came together on Tuesday at Pheasant Run. The new marketer for the school began work on July 1. Her name is Kristi Erickson and you will be hearing a lot from her. We’re close to finding a replacement for Ann O’Connor. Ann signs her correspondence AOC. The Archdiocese of Chicago is beginning to designate themselves as AOC. That’s how important Ann is.
