Dear St. Gertrude - January 1, 2006

Do you think that the Big Bang was on January 10? Do you think it was real cold or real warm? Of course that would depend on whether God was in New Zealand or Buffalo, New York. I have some other questions, so keep in touch. We collected $48,000 on Christmas Day! What a generous people we have in the parish. Not only are they generous but what talent. And besides that they are very friendly. They talk to each other and they seem to like each other. Even if they don’t like each other they fake it very well. That’s good.

The electricity went out after the 5pm Mass on Christmas Eve. No telephone and no heat. I thought it was great because everybody was calling to find out what time the midnight Mass was. I felt rather foolish saying that the midnight Mass was at 10:30pm. When the phone went out I took a nap. The electricity came back at 8:30pm, just in time to tell the people that the midnight Mass was at 10:30pm ¦ and the caroling (which was fabulous) was at 10pm.

Father Tim Duckworth concelebrated the “midnight”Mass and during the caroling he was passing out programs. He met another New Zealander in the process. After the Mass he spent another hour in the Church cleaning up and locking up. He is really a great guy to have around. He took off to Europe yesterday. He plans to work in London with the street people there. He will be back in February and leave for good on March 6. What a blessing he has been since May when he came to the parish.

See you in Church,
WK
