There is not much interest in the Super Bowl this year. Most people are not from Seattle or Pittsburgh. People seem to be more interested in our Taizé prayer and lecture series on Wednesday. Some of the networks have asked if they could televise our Wonderful Wednesdays but we do not want to be bunched in with those other reality shows.
I’m glad that we had the campaign about our offertory collection. We were able to be clear about the parish need and people were able to reflect on their own financial commitment to the parish. But I’m glad it is over. We had well over 100 pledge cards returned. I know that the talk about money seems to overlook the other ways in which people contribute to the parish. The focus on money can really get under one’s skin but now that it is done, I want to thank you all for your patience and generosity.
There is some wonderful serendipity (or is it ecumenical karma?) which brings the Immanuel Lutheran production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to our church. We can reciprocate their wonderful hospitality. They were so kind to open the doors of their church to us when we were told that we could not put on The Answer, a play by Delle Chatman, two years ago. I hope you all will be able to attend next Friday at 7pm.
As we go through Peter Steinfel’s book A People Adrift for the Institute, word comes that Peter is giving a talk at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church on Tuesday, February 7, at 7pm on the subject. We had a very good turnout the first evening for the lecture series.
Even though I’m not all that interested in Seattle, that’s my team in the Super Bowl. It’s a money thing. I’ll parlay the winnings on the White Sox for the next year. By then I’ll be able to buy the Cubs in 2007.

By the way, please pray for Cardinal George and the Priest Placement Board this weekend as they match priest candidates with parishes in need of new pastors.
