Dear St. Gertrude - June 18, 2006

¢ We never heard anything about your father. Early on (age 5) you were sent to a convent/orphanage and you never wrote about your parents. So Happy Corpus Christi. I know you loved the Eucharist. ¢ Fr. Dominic Grassi visited on Monday. He had a chance to talk to the staff during the week. He always says the right things! I think the match was made in heaven. Thanks.

¢ Last Tuesday the cluster of parishes around us brought the pastors together at St. Gregory’s. You should see that beautiful church. It has been re-lighted and a resident artist has done some paintings and refurbished some art treasures which were there. The ceiling has been restored and re-lit after the fire last year. The whole church is quite magnificent. What we have is a cluster of masterpieces. St. Ita, St. Ignatius, St. Jerome, St. Gregory, and our own dear St. Gertrude are a bouquet of brilliance. During the summer it would make a great pilgrimage and if each church would have a docent who would point out the treasures it would be better than a White Sox doubleheader win.

¢ School is out and all is quiet around here. Somewhat eerie. I’m doing some packing and trying to get around to writing notes. I’m not very good at either. The festivities have carved deep memories into my cerebellum. I’m very grateful.
