Speaking about NCA
Congratulations to our Science Fair winners: Helena Kevorkian, Matthew Gonzalez, Katya Simon, and Michael Volini. Students were judged not just on their projects but their oral presentations. The students did a great job creating and presenting. Teaching children to speak publicly is an important skill that is regularly exercised here at NCA. Public speaking begins in kindergarten and continues throughout the school years, and includes lectoring at Mass, performing in plays, recitals and concerts, and participating in competitions such as the science fair where students present and defend their work. They never show anxiety or fear, although I’m sure it can be stressful to be “up there”in front of peers, judges, strangers. Maybe it’s the sense of security within NCA’s loving community that gives them this wonderful self confidence? Whatever it is that makes our NCA children assertive and poised, I wish my teachers had introduced it to me as early as my children are learning it.
