Xylophones are like mini piano lessons twice each week
The Music Program at the Primary Campus just purchased 25-note xylophones for the students from money raised in our “Original Art Works” fundraiser. These instruments are invaluable in teaching keyboard skills. The notes of the xylophone keys are marked so that even the youngest children can play melodies by singing the letters of the notes. It has been so exciting watching the Kindergarten learn to play Bach’s Minuet in G and the preschoolers play “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. Students of all ages have practiced the first four measures of the minuet on the piano with the right hand, recognizing the notes from the xylophone. Third through fifth graders are learning beginning music theory and notation in their workbooks. The children have found it fun and challenging to read the sheet music as they play. We are so fortunate to have a strong Fine Arts Program which enhances learning at every level here at NCA.
