St. Gertrude Keeps Lent - Do Justice

Pray * Fast * Do Justice

Alms-giving, and doing good works in general, widens our vision of the world to the view which God has, a vision that cries out against economic injustices that suffocate the human spirit. By paying special attention to the concerns of people in need - through direct service or by working to change unjust structures - we share in the solidarity that God intends among all people.

?As you review your charitable giving, here are some things that we support as a parish:

  • Participate in Operation Rice Bowl, a program of Catholic Relief Services (pick up the small O.R.B. collection box in the back of church). 75% of your contribution goes overseas to buy cornmeal for a family’s sustenance, or seeds to plant a field, or a sewing machine to make a living, while 25% supports poverty-alleviation efforts here in Chicago.?
  • Use our parish Sharing envelope. Your contribution goes to St. Vincent de Paul, Care For Real, and the Epworth Men’s Shelter.?
  • Support the work of Pax Christi…?
“”Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?”" And the Lord replied, “”Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least among you, you did for me“”– Matthew 25.
