Our Parish

We are a Catholic Church in Edgewater

“…like living stones let yourselves be built into a spiritual house.”

–1 Peter

“Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am.”

–Matthew’s Gospel

Community

St. Gertrude’s is an integral part of Edgewater. We are committed to you, our neighbors, and the organizations that serve you. Our parishioners volunteer their time and talent to causes ranging from social justice to economic development. And because of its diversity, we believe Edgewater provides the ideal setting for meaningful dialogue.

“…of being here for good in every sense…”

–Seamus Heaney

Family

Our commitment to our children is proclaimed above the doors of Northside Catholic Academy on Glenwood Avenue: “The future belongs to the child. And the child belongs to God.”

“If the gym lights are on every night, you know something good is going on.”

–Fr. Bill Kenneally

Work

The Catholic tradition has always valued a person’s labor as the work of the Spirit and social justice as the work of God’s people.

At St. Gertrude we have parishioners from every walk of life. Professionals and the unemployed share the same pew, and small groups gather to discuss their work in light of their faith.

“But what does it profit one to gain the whole world and lose one’s soul in the doing?”

–Mark’s Gospel

Spiritual Nourishment

As we gather to worship, we are fed with the fresh air of God’s Word, the body and blood of Jesus, and the presence of God in each other.

We strive to make our worship joyful, inspiring, and meaningful across gender, ethnic, and age differences.

An Invitation

Our ethnic and racial diversity enlivens our parish. Please join us in our beautiful church, surrounded by inspired music, with your neighbors who are dedicated to finding the holy in our community, our work, and our families.

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.”

–Paul to the Corinthians
