Walk on Water Youth Group

Walk on Water (WOW) is St. Gertrude’s youth and teen program. They meet in small groups twice monthly to reflect on the intersection of faith and their personal stories. There are also larger group events, social gatherings, and liturgies scheduled periodically. This program will continue to develop throughout the year.

  1. What are the age range for being a member of WOW?
    Are there dues?

  2. The age range for WOW membership is from grades 6 through 12, with different activities for the different age groups. For example, high school students participate in faith sharing groups, and middle school students participate in community service projects geared to their level.

All WOW members are invited to social events and field trips, such as our annual fall day trip to Starved Rock State Park, and of course the WOW Mass, which is generally the first Saturday of the month at 5pm, followed by pizza in the rectory (which is free). Youth of all ages can participate in the mass, by singing in the choir or playing a musical instrument, or as readers or greeters or gift bearers or Eucharistic Ministers (16 years or older).

There are no dues for membership; however, there are nominal fees associated with some events such as the Starved Rock trip and (coming this year!) a canoe trip on the Chicago River.

For further information, please call Ann O’Connor at the rectory, 773-764-3621.
